Nobles Consulting Group establishes TCC scholarship

Nobles check.jpgTallahassee, Fla. (May 18, 2016) – An influential local business has made a major gift to Tallahassee Community College to assist students interested in surveying-related careers. The gift is part of the TCC Foundation’s “TCC. We Rise.” campaign.

Nobles Consulting Group made the gift of $25,000 to establish a scholarship for students who are enrolled in or have completed a surveying class at TCC. Nobles Consulting Group, headed by Allen K. Nobles, provides land surveying, mapping, civil engineering and structural engineering throughout the southeastern United States. The firm has four offices in North Florida.

Nobles, who attended TCC in the 1970s, said he has worked with the school for the past 40 years, hiring graduates and collaborating with TCC staff to ensure that the College’s programs train students with the skills they need to get jobs in surveying-related industries.

Allen-Nobles.png“I am in a profession that not a lot of people understand or even know about. TCC has been great at helping prepare students that fit our needs and the hope is that this donation will help let students know something about our profession,” said Nobles.

Heather Mitchell, executive director of the TCC Foundation, agreed that the scholarship will meet a need in the business community and help prepare students for in-demand jobs.

“This scholarship has the potential to help students in a variety of programs because surveying skills can be used by engineers and other professionals, but those skills can also provide job opportunities for students who want to earn a two-year degree or certificate and get right to work,” said Mitchell.

The gift was presented at TCC’s District Board of Trustees meeting on Monday, May 16.
