TCC Fine Art Gallery to feature faculty works

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (August 9, 2016) – The Tallahassee Community College Fine Art Gallery will highlight the talents of TCC art faculty members beginning Thursday, August 25, with an opening reception from 5:30 to 8 p.m.

The Annual Art Faculty Exhibit provides faculty members an opportunity to exhibit their latest work, according to TCC arts events coordinator Barbara Cohenour. The exhibit will showcase many different styles, techniques, media and temperaments.

Additionally, the 2016 exhibit will feature a retrospective on the career of Barbara Edwards, who will retire at the end of the Fall 2016 semester after 30 years of teaching photography at the College. Edwards designed and implemented TCC’s digital photography course following the decline of darkroom photography.

“I never believed that silly notion propagated by art school professors that I had to choose between being a mother and being an artist,” Edwards said. “My goal was to meld the roles of mother, artist and teacher into a sustainable whole.

“I think I nailed it.”

The faculty works will be on display through September 22. The TCC Fine Art Gallery, located in the Fine and Performing Arts Center, is open weekdays from 12:30 to 4:30 p.m.

Future exhibits for the 2016-17 season include:

50 Years of Great Art at TCC: Art by Eight Outstanding TCC Alumni, October 13 – December 15

Kelly Boehmer, January 12 – February 9

Eluster Richardson, February 16 – March 23

Annual Juried Student Art Exhibit, April 6 – 20

Tallahassee Senior Center Artists, May 18 – July 13
