TCC PD Roles & Responsibilities

The Tallahassee Community College Police Department is located on the second floor of the Centre Building (# 9), centrally located on the main campus across from the Library and the Student Union.
The TCC Police Department provides service 24 hours a day, seven days a week, and is an integral part of the campus’s commitment to developing and maintaining a safe and secure campus through the cooperative efforts of many departments and campus organizations.
The TCC Police Department is comprised of sworn law enforcement officers, non-sworn public safety officers, and support staff. All members of the department receive continuous training every years. Moreover, the department officers safety training programs to the entire campus throughout the year.
The department provides a full range of police services, including, but not limited to: investigating all crimes committed in its jurisdiction, making arrests, providing safety services programs, enforcing traffic laws, and providing assistance to students, faculty, staff and visitors to our campus. In addition, the police department maintains a close liaison with local, state and federal law enforcement agencies to implement and coordinate law enforcement operations.
The police department understands the overall academic mission of Tallahassee Community College and strives to play a vital role in enhancing that mission. Concern for the community’s well-being, a desire to provide service and assistance whenever possible, and a constant desire to support the academic environment are all factors inherent in the department’s daily operations and policies.

 Faculty and Staff

Our goal as the college’s safety and security is to provide the faculty and staff with a safe environment, ensure a professional workplace, and promote a high quality learning and teaching atmosphere.  Members of the TCC PD have implemented a proactive approach in administering police services with focus on Visibility, Prevention and Enforcement to reduce crime and improve safety on campus.

With this principle in mind, each member of the TCC Police Department is coached on the importance of this approach in their daily activities when serving our community.

  • A Focus on Visibility – Officers are encouraged to maintain a high level of visibility in all of their assignments to provide a sense of safety and comfort within our campus community and to discourage crime.
  • A Focus on Prevention – Officers are encouraged to identify any problems or concerns on campus and then implement crime prevention tactics and techniques to address them. This proactive technique helps to address the issue before it becomes serious.
  • A Focus on Enforcement – After using visibility and prevention tactics, enforcement is implemented where necessary to address the law or policy violation and bring about the necessary compliance.

A Focus on Visibility, Prevention and Enforcement increases the safety of our community and encourages a closer working relationship within the community we serve.

Our Promise to the Community:

The TCC Police Department serves a diverse community and each person in our community deserves a level of respect that we would want extended to us as an agency and as individuals. Having respect for every person we serve helps build relationships that improve the community as a whole and ensures that the rights of every individual are respected.

The TCC Police Department will work to create partnerships with the campus community. Partnerships allow the community a voice in the policing process and promotes a mutual understanding of quality of live issues.

The single most valuable tool a law enforcement officer has at his/her disposal is integrity. Integrity builds a foundation of trust and support, which is an essential element in a relationship between the police department and the community.

All the efforts of the Police Department are aimed at providing a safe and harmonious environment wherein our community can thrive. We believe the best way to build a community is to work together. Accordingly, we endeavor to preserve old relationships and continuously form new ones within our community. Whether you're representing yourself or a group, we encourage you to let us know how the Tallahassee Community College Police Department can serve you.
